vulnerability note CVE-2012-2112

TYPO3: Cross Site Scripting via Exception Handler

Synthesis of the vulnerability

An attacker can generate an exception in a TYPO3 extension, in order to create a Cross Site Scripting, which can be used to execute JavaScript code in the context of the web site.
Impacted products: Debian, TYPO3 Core.
Severity: 2/4.
Creation date: 17/04/2012.
Identifiers: BID-53047, CVE-2012-2112, DSA-2455-1, TYPO3-CORE-SA-2012-002, VIGILANCE-VUL-11544.

Description of the vulnerability

The TYPO3 Exception Handler processes fatal errors which occur during the execution.

When an exception occurs on some objects, this Exception Handler does not filter attacker's data before displaying them. A Cross Site Scripting thus occurs.

An extension which processes objects, such as Extbase MVC Framework, has to be installed, in order to exploit this vulnerability.

An attacker can therefore generate an exception in a TYPO3 extension, in order to create a Cross Site Scripting, which can be used to execute JavaScript code in the context of the web site.
