Squid Proxy Cache: buffer overflow via HTTP request processing

Synthesis of the vulnerability

An attacker can generate a buffer overflow in the processing of HTTP requests by Squid Proxy Cache, in order to trigger a denial of service, and possibly to execute code.
Impacted products: Fedora, openSUSE, RHEL, Squid, SUSE Linux Enterprise Desktop, SLES.
Severity: 2/4.
Consequences: privileged access/rights, denial of service on service.
Provenance: intranet client.
Creation date: 12/07/2013.
Identifiers: BID-61111, CERTA-2013-AVI-409, CVE-2013-4115, FEDORA-2013-13468, FEDORA-2013-13493, MDVSA-2013:199, openSUSE-SU-2013:1435-1, openSUSE-SU-2013:1436-1, openSUSE-SU-2013:1441-1, openSUSE-SU-2013:1443-1, openSUSE-SU-2013:1444-1, RHSA-2014:1148-01, SQUID-2013:2, SUSE-SU-2016:1996-1, SUSE-SU-2016:2089-1, VIGILANCE-VUL-13098.

Description of the vulnerability

Squid Proxy Cache is a applicative HTTP gateway with caching.

However, for some requests, the size of the data submited by the client is not correctly checked. If the size of data is greater than the size of the storage array, an overflow occurs in the idnsALookup() function.

An attacker can therefore generate a buffer overflow in the processing of HTTP requests by Squid Proxy Cache, in order to trigger a denial of service, and possibly to execute code.

Juniper JunOS: denial of service via the TCP relays

Synthesis of the vulnerability

An attacker can send specially crafted packets to the relays of Juniper JunOS for some protocols, in order to trigger a denial of service.
Impacted products: Juniper J-Series, Junos OS.
Severity: 3/4.
Consequences: denial of service on server.
Provenance: internet client.
Creation date: 12/07/2013.
Identifiers: BID-61122, CERTA-2013-AVI-413, CVE-2013-4687, JSA10575, JSA10577, JSA10580, VIGILANCE-VUL-13096.

Description of the vulnerability

JunOS includes application protocol relays, for instance relays for FTP, H.323, SIP. (Protocols of this kind are impacted by address translation issues.)

An attacker can send specially crafted packets to the relays of Juniper JunOS for some protocols, in order to kill the flowd daemon, and then trigger a denial of service.

computer vulnerability CVE-2013-4685

Juniper JunOS: buffer overflow of Captive Portal

Synthesis of the vulnerability

An attacker can generate a buffer overflow in the HTTP server of Captive Portal of Juniper JunOS, in order to trigger a denial of service, and possibly to execute code.
Impacted products: Juniper J-Series, Junos OS.
Severity: 3/4.
Consequences: privileged access/rights, denial of service on server.
Provenance: intranet client.
Creation date: 12/07/2013.
Identifiers: BID-61125, CERTA-2013-AVI-413, CVE-2013-4685, JSA10574, JSA10575, JSA10580, VIGILANCE-VUL-13095.

Description of the vulnerability

JunOS provides a captive Web portal, typically used to authenticate users, before letting them communicate with the outside.

The daemon flows handles HTTP requests for this portal. However, for some requests, the size of data sent by the client is not checked, so if the size of data is greater than the size of the storage array, an overflow occurs.

An attacker can therefore generate a buffer overflow in the HTTP server of Captive Portal of Juniper JunOS, in order to trigger a denial of service, and possibly to execute code.

vulnerability note CVE-2013-4684

Juniper JunOS: denial of service via Protocol-Independent Multicast

Synthesis of the vulnerability

An attacker can send Protocol-Independent Multicast packets to Juniper JunOS, in order to trigger a denial of service.
Impacted products: Juniper J-Series, Junos OS.
Severity: 3/4.
Consequences: denial of service on server.
Provenance: internet client.
Creation date: 11/07/2013.
Identifiers: BID-61127, CERTA-2013-AVI-413, CVE-2013-4684, JSA10573, JSA10580, VIGILANCE-VUL-13094.

Description of the vulnerability

When address translation and PIM (Protocol-Independent Multicast) support are both enabled, the daemon flowd of JunOS does not correctly handle some PIM packets, which leads to its termination, and so routing termination.

An attacker can therefore send Protocol-Independent Multicast packets to Juniper JunOS, in order to trigger a denial of service.

vulnerability bulletin CVE-2013-4690

Juniper JunOS: information disclosure via the padding of Ethernet frames

Synthesis of the vulnerability

An attacker can sniff Ethernet frames sent by Juniper JunOS, in order to obtain sensitive information.
Impacted products: Juniper J-Series, Junos OS.
Severity: 1/4.
Consequences: data reading.
Provenance: LAN.
Creation date: 11/07/2013.
Identifiers: BID-61123, CERTA-2013-AVI-413, CVE-2013-4690, JSA10579, JSA10580, VIGILANCE-VUL-13093.

Description of the vulnerability

Ethernet frames must have a minimal length, which depends on the bit rate of the data link.

When a packet, likely an IP one, is wrapped into an Ethernet frame, the end of the containing buffer, between the end of the packet and the end of the frame, if any, must be initialized. However, JunOS does not do that, which leads to disclosure of fragments of the JunOS kernel memory.

An attacker can therefore sniff Ethernet frames sent by Juniper JunOS, in order to obtain sensitive information.
