Windows: denial of service via IPv6 Router Advertisement

Synthesis of the vulnerability

An attacker can send numerous ICMPv6 Router Advertisement packets, in order to trigger a denial of service.
Impacted products: Windows 2012, Windows 8.
Severity: 2/4.
Consequences: denial of service on server.
Provenance: LAN.
Creation date: 11/02/2014.
Identifiers: 2904659, BID-65409, CERTFR-2014-AVI-061, CVE-2014-0254, MS14-006, VIGILANCE-VUL-14219.

Description of the vulnerability

The IPv6 Neighbor Discovery protocol uses 5 types of ICMPv6 packets (RFC 4861):
 - Router Solicitation : query the Ethernet address of a gateway
 - Router Advertisement : answer/announce indicating the gateway
 - etc.

However, Windows does no correctly manage resources required to handle Router Advertisement packets containing several routers.

This vulnerability may be a duplicate of VIGILANCE-VUL-12064.

An attacker can therefore send numerous ICMPv6 Router Advertisement packets, in order to trigger a denial of service.

Description of the vulnerability

The ImageMagick application is used to process images.

However, if the size of data of a PSD image is greater than the size of the storage array, an overflow occurs in the DecodePSDPixels() function of the coders/psd.c file.

This vulnerability is different from the buffer overflow of the WritePSDImage() function used to create a PSD image, which was fixed in version 6.8.7-6, and which is a minor bug (but identified by CVE-2014-1947 adn CVE-2014-2030).

An attacker can therefore generate a buffer overflow via PSD in ImageMagick, in order to trigger a denial of service, and possibly to execute code.

vulnerability alert CVE-2011-5271

Pacemaker: file corruption via /tmp/extract_define

Synthesis of the vulnerability

A local attacker can create a symbolic link named /tmp/extract_define, in order to alter the pointed file, with privileges of Pacemaker.
Impacted products: Pacemaker.
Severity: 1/4.
Consequences: data creation/edition.
Provenance: user shell.
Creation date: 11/02/2014.
Identifiers: 633964, BID-65472, CVE-2011-5271, VIGILANCE-VUL-14201.

Description of the vulnerability

The configure script of the Pacemaker product uses a temporary file named /tmp/extract_define.pid.

However, when the file is opened, the program does not check if it is an existing symbolic link. The file pointed by the link is thus opened with privileges of the program.

Moreover, the file name is predictable, and is located in a publicly writable directory, so the attacker can create the symbolic link before its usage.

A local attacker can therefore create a symbolic link named /tmp/extract_define, in order to alter the pointed file, with privileges of Pacemaker.
