vulnerability note CVE-2014-5351

MIT krb5: privilege escalation via kadmind kadm5_randkey_principal_3

Synthesis of the vulnerability

An authenticated attacker can obtain old keys used via kadmind of MIT krb5, in order to escalate his privileges.
Severity: 1/4.
Creation date: 13/10/2014.
Identifiers: CVE-2014-5351, DLA-1265-1, FEDORA-2015-2382, MDVSA-2014:224, openSUSE-SU-2015:0255-1, SUSE-SU-2015:0290-1, SUSE-SU-2015:0290-2, USN-2498-1, VIGILANCE-VUL-15464.
Full Vigil@nce bulletin... (Free trial)

Description of the vulnerability

A MIT krb5 administrator can randomize the key of a Service Principal. For example:
  kadmin -q "change_password -randkey HTTP/example.com"

However, if the "-keepold" option is used, krb5 keeps the old keys in the database, but the kadm5_randkey_principal_3() function also returns them to the user.

An authenticated attacker can therefore obtain old keys used via kadmind of MIT krb5, in order to escalate his privileges.

weakness CVE-2014-3581

Apache httpd: NULL pointer dereference via mod_cache

Synthesis of the vulnerability

An attacker can force a NULL pointer to be dereferenced in mod_cache of Apache httpd, in order to trigger a denial of service.
Severity: 2/4.
Creation date: 13/10/2014.
Identifiers: CVE-2014-3581, FEDORA-2014-17153, FEDORA-2014-17195, MDVSA-2015:093, RHSA-2014:1972-01, RHSA-2015:0325-02, SSA:2015-111-03, USN-2523-1, VIGILANCE-VUL-15463.
Full Vigil@nce bulletin... (Free trial)

Description of the vulnerability

The mod_cache module can be installed on Apache httpd to keep documents in a cache.

The Content-Type header indicates the type of the requested document.

However, when the Content-Type is empty, the modules/cache/cache_util.c file does not check if a pointer is NULL, before using it.

An attacker can therefore force a NULL pointer to be dereferenced in mod_cache of Apache httpd, in order to trigger a denial of service.

cybersecurity note CVE-2014-8086

Linux kernel: denial of service via F_SETFL and O_DIRECT

Synthesis of the vulnerability

A local attacker can manipulate F_SETFL and O_DIRECT on the Linux kernel, in order to trigger a denial of service.
Severity: 1/4.
Creation date: 10/10/2014.

Full Vigil@nce bulletin... (Free trial)

Description of the vulnerability

The fcntl(F_SETFL) call defines flags of a file. The O_DIRECT flag indicates to transfer data synchronously if possible.

However, when this flag is quickly set and reset, a fatal race error occurs in the ext4_file_write_iter() function.

A local attacker can therefore manipulate F_SETFL and O_DIRECT on the Linux kernel, in order to trigger a denial of service.
